With a deep sense of pride and a powerful desire to remember, the Tinner Hill Heritage Music Festival began in Falls Church in 1994.
What began as a humble block party became a resonant celebration of African American history, a vibrant tapestry of culture, and the enduring legacy of its music, all honored on the historic Tinner Hill site.
Held on the Tinner Hill Historic Site, the event has showcased the neighborhood's African American history and culture, including its vibrant music scene.
The festival has grown over the years, initially moving to a Wallace Street parking lot, then to Mary Henderson Middle School, and finally settling in Cherry Hill Park. The festival is a key part of the Tinner Hill neighborhood's history, which also includes the story of the Tinner family and their role in civil rights activism.

2024 Tinner Hill Music Festival brought together a powerhouse lineup of musical acts to The Little City last Saturday. A foot-tapping blend of blues, reggae, jazz, gospel, and funk, this year’s artists drew a massive crowd — a sizable portion of whom spent a good deal of time dancing near the stage.

The festival is about the blues, it’s about music, it’s about culture, it’s about history and I think that by having the festival it helps to expose people to that culture and to that history, but also to the significant role that African-Americans have played in Falls Church.
